FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 29th May 2009 CONTACT: Atelier SAINT JAMES 323.993.5722 kikusaintjames@aol.com http://www.synthiasaintjames.com Pasadena Playhouse Presents Synthia SAINT JAMES The Pasadena Playhouse will present a solo exhibition of the artwork of Synthia SAINT JAMES beginning on Friday, June 6, 2009 and ending on Sunday, August 16, 2009 in conjunction with Regina Taylor’s play CROWNS. “A Conversation with the Artist Synthia SAINT JAMES” will be held on Sunday, June 14th at 2pm in Pasadena Playhouse’s Carrie Hamilton Theatre. The theatre is located at 39 S. El Molino Avenue in Pasadena, California. Following the conversation Ms. SAINT JAMES will treat her audience to a guided tour of her exhibition entitled “In Celebration of Crowns”. This event is free and open to the public. The opening reception for her exhibit will be held on Sunday, July 12th just prior to the official opening night festivities for the play CROWNS, and a closing reception is scheduled for Sunday, August 16th. “A very special thank you to Regina Taylor, my curators Gay Iris Parker and Steven Irvin, my photographer Leroy Hamilton, and the Pasadena Playhouse for the incredible opportunity of exhibiting my artwork.” Synthia SAINT JAMES World renowned visual artist Synthia SAINT JAMES is celebrating a career that spans four decades this year. She sold her first commissioned painting at the age of twenty in New York City. In 1989, SAINT JAMES received her first corporate commission from The House of Seagram. Since that time she has created original artworks for such corporations as Maybelline, Kayser-Roth, Coca Cola USA, Essence Communications, and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. The United States Postal Service, (she designed the first Kwanzaa stamp in 1996), the Girl Scouts USA, the American Library Association, Children’s Institute International, Center Disease Control, the United Way, and the National Education Association are also included in her incredible list of commissions. Her architectural designs include ceramic tile for the Ontario International Airport, and Cowan Elementary School, stained glass windows for the West Tampa Public Library, and elevator doors for the Capitol Area East End Complex in Sacramento, CA. Synthia SAINT JAMES’ art and celebrity have been utilized in promotional campaigns for such companies as Royal Caribbean International, Johnson & Johnson’s AMBI Skincare, Washington Mutual Bank, Barnes and Nobles and for Liberty Mutual. Most recently Regina Taylor commissioned her to create the painting “Crowns” for merchandising her wonderful play CROWNS. She is the author and/or illustrator of 22 books, and her art graces the covers of over 60 books, including books by best selling authors such as Alice Walker, Terry McMillan and Iyanla Vanzant. Synthia SAINT JAMES, a ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, she is also a popular keynote speaker and presenter.
